I'll Never...

This weekend we re-arranged the furniture in our TV room to make it more Tate-friendly. The new look will definitely not get us into Architectural Digest, but it is more functional. This is only the latest in a series of compromises I've made and promises I've broken since having Tate. For example...

1. My house will never be taken over by baby stuff.
I thought about this promise this morning as I tripped over the xylophone in the kitchen and nearly fell into the pack-n-play in the breakfast room. I breathed a sigh of relief as I maneuvered around the swing in our living room to get to the back door, which was blocked by the exersaucer.

2. My child will never throw a fit in a restaurant.
Actually, his cry is very sweet. I don't think it bothers anyone.

3. My child will not watch TV until he's two.

4. My child will never go out in public barefoot.

Ok, so I've broken all of these promises, but I swear I will never play DVDs on road trips, never buy a mini-van or SUV, and never let my kid wear jeans to church. Never.

But in my defense, how can you resist this guy?

Funny! We lasted until the Margs was about one year old until we caved in on the tv (bloged a/b it "Why I Love the Backyardigans" b/f you were a reader, I think). We had very occasional Baby Einstien moments before she was one...but again...only when absolutely necessary.

I'm with you on the van or the suv. I just love my four-door family car!! However, I know I may have to change my opinion once we have more-than-one or for sure if we get to three. Lord help us if we get crazy enough to have three! Jeremy and I have been hoping they'd come out with a pimped-out Volvo station wagon so that by the time we have three--we could do that over the SUV.

Jennifer and Rebekah both have really nice vans, though...so I know there's no shame in van driving. I just am partial to my little cars. Always have been.

Yes, nothing against minivans or SUVS...I just have trouble driving them because they are so big. But I know I'll be giving in as soon as we have another one...I have been eyeing the Passat wagon, though.

And I already declared we will bring a DVD player on our next road trip, so I know I'll be breaking that rule.

And the "no jeans at church" rule came about when they had confirmation Sunday and every boy except one had on jeans. I mean, come on. If you are gonna stand in front of church for your confirmation, at least wear khakis.

my bet is on the DVD on a road trip going first. we do some serious road-tripping, and it sure is nice to have that secret weapon to pull out those last few hours on the road!
next will be the suv/van, because a u-haul behind an audi just isn't that much fun.
you don't ever have to cave on the jeans :)

jenny - hate to break it to you, but a passat wagon doesn't buy you much more space - esp. with 2 barcalounger-size britax carseats in the back!! :)

Say it isn't so about the Passat wagon. :-( Hummer, here I come. But yes, I'm not caving on the jeans!

Hah! And again I say HAH! Can't wait to see Tate's mama driving her designer jean wearing son to and from church in her SUV while he watches a dvd starring big bird.

Jenny, I totally agree on the jeans thing...no worries, you DON"T have to cave...even my cousin Ely doesn't wear jeans to church...I think...I feel the same way about that girl! As for the DVD...yeah, totally gone and the SUV..well, we're holding out as long as possible but your friend is right about the Britax carseats...my honda is totally out of room because of 2 of those things!

Yeah, I said I would never put something in Landon's mouth that had fallen on the floor. Yeah--RIGHT. He throws his sippy cup on the floor, I give it back to him. Sometimes I even wipe off the top.

I also said I would never drive a Taurus....

The petition worked! We have Mama June commenting on the blogs! It may not be her own blog, but I'll take comments! Welcome "emjay"!!!!!

Addendum: I will never put Tate in the red and blue polo shirt again. Scrolling through the blog, it appears that's all he wears.

Poor kid just has no clothes. sniff, sniff.

You are singing my tune!

My recent "I'll nevers" that have come to reality. I'll never...
have my child's birthday party @ Chuckie Cheese
allow a gun in my house (Bobby & Hunter have taken up hunting)
be married to someone who hunts (Maybe we shouldn't have named our first born "Hunter")
let my kids wear jeans to church (Sorry, Mom)

We LOVE headphones and DVD players on road trips. We let our kids drink Coke. Bobby and I take naps on the weekend even through our kids haven't napped in years.

Remember Jenny, we had to trade in our passat wagon after Anna turned 1 b/c they sat to close to each other and fought too much.
