I have a confession. I just sent an email to Sesame Street complaining about Horatio the Elephant. It started with a long, well-written message about how much I love Sesame Street, how I watched it as a kid, and how I feel ridiculous even bringing it up, but that the Horatio character just doesn't seem like he is up to the usual Sesame Street standards. His voice and his antics encourage children to be loud and obnoxious. I clicked on "submit" and got an error message. My carefully worded missive disappeared into cyberspace. Frustrated, I went back to the "Contact Us" page and tried again. And I got another error message. So I had to start over AGAIN. Finally, I just quickly typed:
"Horatio the elephant is shrill and obnoxious and must go."
Submit.
This time it went through.
Yep. I just used my English major and professional skills to flame a Sesame Street character.
This blog post brought to you by the letters P and O.

Hilarious!
Oh--do you mean the dumb elephant who took a bath in Maria's tub this week? He is OBNOXIOUS indeed. I did love last week, though, when Cookie Monster had the "Cookie Touch" like the Midas Touch and everything he touched turned into a cookie--even that dude that works at old man Hooper's shop.
YES, that's the elephant. It was that episode (where he gets stuck in Maria's bath) that prompted me to write Sesame Street. It was my final straw. I didn't see the Cookie Touch episode, but I bet I still have it on my DVR so I -- er, I mean Tate -- will have to watch. I did love the show last week where the monsters thought they turned Maria into a chicken...or the one last week about "Minitis" with Brian Williams reporting. That's some good stuff.
I have NO idea who Horatio is or any other S.S. characters. I haven't watched it since I was a kid. Does that make me uncool? Or rather, does that make me cool? Hmmm....
Don't worry, KJ, we don't watch SS either. Margaret is scared of puppets on TV. She likes these same characters on shirts, books, or even her diapers...but not on TV. So, after two or three terrified viewings of SS...we no longer make her try it out. I am sure Horatio is a jerk, though. I will punch him in the face if I ever get the chance. Seriously.
Why stop with Horatio? Let’s rally to rid every realm of our earth from fictional elephants; except Snuffleupagus, he was more woolly mammoth like so Snuffy can stay. The honey loving Heffalumps from Pooh - got to go.
You would get rid of HORTON? "A person's a person, no matter how small" And DUMBO? Who was taunted for his big ears...yet turned them into a positve feature. And BABAR?
Ok..you can get rid of Babar... he's boring...and French.
Oui, oui. Off wiz zair heads!
I think all this Elephant-phobia is yet another example of the liberal media trying to brainwash our children. You never see obnoxious Donkeys on kids shows, do you? That donkey in Shrek was kind of obnoxious to Shrek at least but then Shrek is green and EVERYTHING is annoying to the tree-hugging Greenies!
I'm just saying....
YO! Ladies...I have dreams (still) of being ON Sesame Street...as a puppet of course...but a cool puppet like Cookie Monster (who by the way, has taught my youngest to say cookie just like he does...cuuuukie)...but I have NOT seen Horatio...I plan to DVR it though...but I LOVE me some SS...by the way, emjay, if you read this, Gwen was talking about "Her MamaJune" just the other day...the lady with the wings at Tate's party...no lie...can't make that up!!!
Hey Pink, I love your girls. Tell Gwen I need her to sit on my lap again and listen to Mama Mia read more stories!
Mama June...YOU got it!! I can't believe the memory on that kid...but I can tell you one thing...you're hers for life...kinda like you are for all of us:)
PS, Big Guy, Donkey on Shrek is the coolest...and black, what are you gonna do?
Isn't Eeyore a donkey that just kind of sits around jobless and feeling sorry for himself? Hmmm! Subliminal messages in children's literature. I think Big Guy is right! But still, I love me some Eeyore!
